Spectating Well to Live Well

How to live well as a Christian

My son and I went to watch a kids’ climbing competition on the weekend. The photo shows him spectating. The other photo shows him climbing the outside of the building. He enjoyed watching other kids, but the watching whet his appetite to get involved himself.

Do you feel more like a spectator or a participant in life at the moment?

There is a time to observe and there is a time to take action. A time to learn and a time to act on what we know.

It’s no good acting without knowledge. Equally, it’s no good knowing if we don’t act on what we know.

Our life as Christians is a balance of gazing at God and letting what we see inspire the way we live. Our lives flow out of our time spent with God. 1 John 4:17 tells us,

As we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

God took all the initiative to show us what real love is. As we grow in our understanding of this love, let’s be like my son and get out there, showing the same love we’ve experienced to others.

How we live is determined by how we spectate. Are we spending more time gazing at God or at what we want to buy next? Do we spend time in God’s Word just out of habit, or with the anticipation that God will say something for us to act on?
