It's easy for our lives to get out of alignment with our beliefs. An opportunity to have a realignment.

Is your Christian life producing the fruit you expect it should?
If we’re being honest, we might answer this question “no”, or “not completely”. We’re not alone in answering like this. It seems to me something is missing in my experience of living a Christian life. I see glimpses, but when I compare my life to the life of Jesus and His disciples described in the Gospels, there’s a gap.
How do you feel about this? I would like my life to more and more reflect the life Jesus calls us to. I want to see the truth of Jesus’s words:
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:12-13
How is this possible? You might be thinking, I’ve tried, and I’m not sure it is possible.
And that is true. It is impossible for us to live like Jesus and do what He did. That’s the whole point of the Christian life. It’s not us, but Christ in us.
Jesus himself said a few verses earlier, “I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.” John 14:10.
Jesus explains this idea more in John chapter 15 when he talks about the vine and the branches. Our fruitfulness depends on our connection to Jesus.
Thinking about the disconnect I sometimes feel between the life I’m living and the life I want to live, a word comes to mind: “alignment.”
If you’ve ever driven a car that pulls to one side, lived in a house where the doors don’t latch or felt pain in your back, you know the importance of being in alignment.
The problem is that our beliefs and our actions can get out of alignment.
We all have areas where there is a mismatch between what we believe and what we do. We might have been living a certain way for so long, we don’t see anything wrong. Our culture can blind us to ways we’re out of alignment with Jesus. Sometimes we live out of alignment because fixing things just seems too difficult.
It is up to each of us to prayerfully reflect on our ways, comparing our habits to what we read in scripture. But rather than feeling overwhelmed by how far we fall short, let’s ask the Holy Spirit for one step we can take next, asking Him to do the work in us. He is the one who enables us to walk forward in grace. He is the gardener who prunes us.
Let’s ask God together, “Realign us with Your will.”
